"Out From The Undergrowth"
by William J. Lever
You give me room to grow
And I'll take root to influence a change
In patterns I know you'll have to see to believe
The winter left between us
A closed casket procession
To spring back, eyes wide open
To the first signs of flowering.
Lack of support
Translated to
Lack of interference.
Time to do
What was needed
Time to be
Who I needed me to be.
An ill nature wounded the dreamer
A crown of flowers adorned
In this endless dizzying dance
You equate to romance.
Conjure up what ails you
And spew it in their face
The vines that bind you
Constrict no more
Falling through the trees
It's your choice to choose
Up or down
Falling up or down
You choose
There's a garden of flowers in your throat
A bloom of greens and yellows
Wilting from red to grey
To decay with the sentences
You use to codemn.
Used to be that you were the mother of this all.
Before you used the shadows to cast out the light.
With the changing of the leaves
Locked in this battle of
Nurture vs nature
When you know as well as I
The colors worn that day
When we arrived to discover
September came with the fall.
Conjure up what ails you
And spew it in their face
The vines that bind you
Constrict no more
Falling through the trees
It's your choice to choose
Up or down
Falling up or down
You choose
You choose whether to carry the signal
Or make us what we fear most
What we fear most
Fear
You swore surface deep
Was all this would amount to
That all my dreams would decay
With the changing of the leaves
Locked in this battle of
Nature vs nurture
When you know as well as I
The colors worn that day
